Before you book
Grades, kit, weather and what happens if it goes wrong.
What do the grades mean?
One is a morning on easy ground. Three is a full day and most people should start there. Five involves camping and terrain that is genuinely hard. Every trip page carries the distance, the ascent and an honest sentence about the hardest hour.
What if I book the wrong grade?
Somebody will ring you. About one enquiry in five ends with us suggesting a different trip, almost always an easier one, and it has never once gone badly.
What is included in the price?
Transport from the meeting point, permits, food on the trip, and both guides. Not included: your boots, your own insurance, and anything alcoholic.
Why two guides on every trip?
So one can stay with somebody who is struggling while the trip continues, and so a decision to turn back is never one person’s alone. It is expensive and it is not negotiable.
What happens if the weather turns?
We move the date or refund you in full, and we make that call the evening before rather than at the trailhead. Twice in eighteen years we have turned back partway and refunded half.
